Welcome to the AquaGen Lab Web Site! At the AquaGen laboratory, we focus on the population genetics and conservation genetics of fish and other aquatic organisms. In addition, we use molecular genetic techniques to address ecological questions. We have primarily studied fish populations in the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest regions of the United States. We have also reached out to Alaska, Europe, and Siberia to study northern pike, to the Pacific Northwest to study salmonids, and to Thailand to study catfish. One of our researchers also specializes in studies of freshwater mussels. The links will lead you to information about current and past members of our laboratory, descriptions of current and recent research projects, and a listing of publications from our lab. Please follow our lab link if youre interested in more details about AquaGen. If you have any questions about AquaGen please contact Loren Miller at lmm@umn.edu. Special Announcement Anne Kapuscinski, director of AquaGen, was recently awarded a Pew Marine Conservation Fellowship, the world’s preeminent award for marine conservation. Hatchery Genetic Guidelines Chapter Appearing Soon Loren Miller and Anne Kapuscinskis chapter Genetic guidelines for hatchery supplementation programs will appear soon in the forthcoming textbook Population Genetics: Principles and Practices for Fisheries Scientists. The text, edited by Eric Hallerman of Virginia Tech and published by the American Fisheries Society, is intended especially for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students. It will also be useful for anyone in fisheries research or management who wants to know more about basic genetic principles and applications, with examples relevant to their own work. Related Links
