Assignment # 3

 

For your third essay, please choose one of the topics below.  I am expecting a thoughtful essay of no less than two typewritten pages (double-spaced).

1. Attend the following talk and write an essay about how racist sentiments were evident in the treaty rights conflicts we have discussed in class. April 27 Tim Wise lecture " Race Is Not a Card: White Privilege, Racism and the Culture of Denial"

2. Write a reflective essay on why U. S. government policy should or should not  continue to encourage Native Americans to assimilate into the larger society surrounding them.

3. Write a reflective essay on the fishery management benefits   to having a co-operative (also called co-management) approach to managing fisheries jointly with Indian and non-Indian resource management agencies.

Turn in your assignment by hard copy (printed), by end of class on May 3, 2007, or turn it in as an MSWord attachment to an email to spang001@umn.edu, by end of the business day on the official "Last Day of Classes", May 4, 2007. If you have elected to use option #1 above, please turn your assignment in to Rachel Walker according to her instructions.  Thank you for your participation throughout the semester.
