Twelve students were enrolled in the lecture and laboratory sections of the course in Fall Semester, 2007. An additional student, Kristal Schneider, took the laboratory with the class and undertook assigned readings for the lecture portion of the course as an Independent Study. Brief autobiographical sketches of the class members appear below. --G. Spangler

I am currently working towards a Master’s degree in the Conservation Biology Graduate Program (Fisheries and Aquatic Biology track). My advisor is Bruce Vondracek and I am studying effects of habitat and macroinvertebrate availability on the re-introduction of slimy sculpin (Cottus cognatus) in southeast Minnesota. I am planning to pursue a Ph.D. at the U of M and am interested in a career in academia. I currently live in Falcon Heights and enjoy camping and leaving the city on weekends.

Joe Reisdorf

Nissa Rudh:  I am from Rothsay, MN... a little town on I94 just north of Fergus Falls. It is an interesting place because it is on the shore of old lake Agassiz, so all the land north and west is completely flat, and to the east and south is oak savannah and as we call it “lake country.” I am a senior in the fisheries program here and hope to go to grad school somewhere for fish behavior, more specifically bioacoustics. Maybe if I am lucky, I will be studying in Bergen (Norway) next year! For hobbies, I love to shoot my bow, run outside, play my guitar and bass, water ski, read science fiction concerning aliens, and fly kites. Most people would not guess it by simply meeting, but I am totally obsessed with sound effects and music… I tend to narrate my life using various sounds and songs quite elaborately.

Kristal Schneider: I was born in Greenville, Texas, and I grew up in Caddo Mills, Texas. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Fisheries Ecology and Management, and I am currently working towards a M.S. for Fisheries and Aquatic Biology. After graduation I would like to teach Aquatic Science at a high school in Texas. I feel like I could impact our youth in a BIG way and give them extensive knowledge of a subject that should be given more attention in primary education. My hobbies are spending time with my family (I have 2 sisters that are 5 and 9), playing video games, taking care of my pets, and recently learning to fly RC helicopters with my husband. A little known fact about me is that I am a descendent of the Dalton Gang who hung out with Frank and Jessie James, which my great great grandfather, Frank James Bostic, was named after.
