Wildlife disease ecology, animal capture and anesthesia, physiology.
I am currently conducting research in the epidemiology, ecology, and management of brucellosis in elk and bison in the Greater Yellowstone Area (GYA). This involves surveillance, elk movement and calving patterns, vaccination, contraception development, and diagnostic development. I am also conducting research in elk on Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) to develop a model of the disease's potential impact on elk populations in the GYA. Other CWD research involves method and dynamics of disease transmission. Another wildlife disease of interest is pneumonia in bighorn sheep. Current research is focused on developing an efficient vaccine and delivery methods. We constantly develop and assess new methods of chemical capture of wildlife. This involves drug efficacy testing, analysis of physiological responses to drugs, drug delivery, and field applications.
