The Lake Superior Biological Station has been studying the St. Louis River fish community since 1988 to evaluate any impacts the establishment of ruffe may have on the native fish community. We have biological data on ruffe and round gobies and from many of the native species in the river. We also have an extensive ruffe bibliography collection. His work there resulted in two peer-reviewed publications. Since earning his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in 1996, Derek has been working as a professor of Mathematics at Northland College.
