Early agricultural work and some commercial fishing experience gave me practical insights into the need for more cohesive environmental and natural resource policy. This led to a desire to become more qualified in the natural resource sciences and the B.Sc. in Aquatic Biology with a minor in Environmental Science from St. Cloud State University (St. Cloud, Minnesota). Research into the biological control of the nuisance aquatic plant, Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum ) leading to the M.Sc. from the University of Minnesota Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife is in the completion stages. I am currently involved in the biochronology work group, working on the biochronology of fish species from Siberian inland waters. Fisheries coursework and a general interest in environmental policy and resource allocation inspired my current interest in the allocation of fishery resources, co-management of native peoples fishery resources and the treaty fishing rights of North American indigenous peoples. This will be the subject of an upcoming research project.
